Food, food and… food!

Friday was probably one of those days in my life where I’ve eaten the most.

It all started at lunch, Dennis and myself opted to go and try the local ramen shop in Onagawa since none of us had been there before.

 

この前の金曜日は人生で一番食べた日かもしれません。お昼にデニスと「夢を語れ女川」という少し変わったラーメン屋で食べることにしました。

 

They only offer one type of Ramen. While waiting for our bowl to be prepared I was invited to join the two chefs at the other side of the counter and witness the ramen preparation from their point of view. Watching the broth boiling and the noodles being stirred was pure joy.

 

このお店はメニューが1種類のラーメンしかありません。ラーメンが出来上がるのを待っている間、従業員に誘われ、見学でキッチンの中に入らせていただきました。シェフの目線から見たラーメン作りはとても新鮮でした。出汁がコツコツと煮込まれ、麺と絡められるのを見てなんだか気持ちよかったです。

 

The portion of ramen was the biggest I’ve ever seen, and it simply tasted amazingly. I have to give a special mention to the pork with its unique texture and salty flavour.

 

そして、何と言ってもラーメンの量は想像以上に多かったです。しかし味は素晴らしかったです。特に麺の上に載っている豚肉は柔らかくて良い塩梅になっていて最高でした。

 

It took me some time to recover from lunch and I managed not to fall asleep on my laptop.

 

食後の眠気は強烈でしたが、昼食後はなんとか寝ずに済みました。

 

In the early afternoon my boss came to pick me up and drove me to her place where we were going to have dinner all together with her family.

 

その後、今回インターン生させてもらっているみなとまちセラミカ工房の代表が迎えに来てくださり、一緒に家に向かいました。この日の夜は阿部代表の家でホームパーティーをする予定でした。

 

The amount of food prepared was definitely the one normally made for a special occasion. The table was fully covered by different types of tempura, sashimi and rice for Temakizushi, salad and chicken kara-age: an absolute feast.

 

食卓の上には、各種の天ぷら、刺身、手巻き寿司、サラダ、鳥の唐揚げなどなど、とても豪華な食事が用意されていました。

  

By starting to eat earlier than usual we could all take our time and slow down when necessary. I had a beautiful time with all of them and appreciate the fact that they made me feel comfortable the whole time.

 

今日は早めの夕食でしたが、ゆっくりおしゃべりしながら食べました。家族の皆さんがとても優しかったのでとてもアットホームな感じで楽しい時間を過ごしました。
