Finally, Onagawa!

 

 

Finally, yesterday, I arrived in Onagawa. As part of my internship with social enterprise BOUNDLESS, I will be staying in Onagawa for the next 3 weeks. After the induction at Camass Community Centre, we headed to the Onagawa Ceramika Factory, the place where I’ll be working during the next few weeks with the aim to create a promotional video that will be presented to the public on the 8/22. We had a brief introductory chat with Abe San, the owner, to discuss my internship a bit further.

ヨーロッパの長旅を経て昨日やっと女川に着きました。今回はソーシャルスタートアップの株式会社BOUNDLESSのインターンシップで女川に3週間ほど滞在することになります。女川フューチャーセンターCamassでのオリエンテーションを受けた後、今回お手伝いさせていただくみなとまちセラミか工房さんにご紹介いただきました。これからの3週間は女川スペインタイルのプロモーションビデオを制作させていただきます。8月22日に女川の皆さんにプレゼンをさせていただく予定です。お店で代表の阿部さんと今回のインターンシップの話をさせていただきました。

My first day at work started around 9am. First, Abe San explained me my daily schedule, then she had me go through some pictures documenting the  3/11 disaster and told me about her personal story during that day and the following weeks.

 

初日の仕事は9時から始まりました。代表の阿部さんが1日のスケジュールを丁寧に説明してくださり、そして東日本大震災の写真を見せながら当時の話や、阿部さんご自身の体験について語ってくださいました。

 

Soon after that, the first workshop participants started to come in and I managed to get some video shots of the session.

 

その後、スペインタイルのワークショップに参加するお客様が入ってきたので、ワークショップの様子も動画を撮らせていただきました。

 

Food is something to look forward to when in Onagawa, especially if you are a seafood lover. For my lunch I headed to Fish Market Okasei, a place serving delicious Donburi made with the freshest fish available in town.

 

女川は海鮮好きな人にはたまらない！お昼はおかせいで女川の豊かな海産物を堪能させていただきました。

In the first half of the afternoon I took part in a workshop at the Ceramika Factory and learnt a bit about this very laborious art. It was very challenging, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it and overall, I feel very happy to have had this opportunity.

 

お昼の後、みなとまちセラミか工房のワークショップに参加させていただき、この美しい芸術の大変さを学びました。絵付けの作業は簡単ではありませんでしたが、とても楽しかったです。自分でスペインタイルを作る機会をいただけてとても嬉しかったです。

 

Right after the workshop, Abe San gave a speech to a group of people visiting Onagawa, her personal story and words were truly inspiring to all of us.

 

ワークショップが終わり、今回は女川に尋ねている団体が代表の阿部さんの話を聞きにいらっしゃったので、私もお話を聞かせていただきました。阿部さんのストーリーも、お言葉もとても力強いものがあり、刺激を受けました。

 

 

The process of reconstruction of Onagawa is unique and the people who were and are part of it set the example for anyone in search of an inspiration.

 

女川の復興はとても興味深いです。その過程に関わった皆様は本当に私たちに多くのインスピレーションと希望を与えてくれます。
