Day 5 in Onagawa (May 4th)

Day 5 in Onagawa (May 4th)

Kamaboko (fishpaste) yakitate experience

Just by the girls share house we found the Kamaboko factory, Takamasa. Right after the disaster, as many roads were closed, the factory produced kamaboko for a week continuously and provided it for free to those needed. Now, beside trying to expand globally, the future CEO of the company is also building schools in Myanmar, just to show his appreciation to one of the country it has build factory in. That is one of the reason why a few Myanmar goods are sold in the factory’s souvenirs shop.

If you have a chance to catch the future CEO Takahashi Masaki san somewhere in the city, do not hesitate to talk to him. He is a very passionate man and speaks very good English too.

The diving service shop in Onagawa is ran by a very passionate and friendly young man, Takahashi Masayoshi san. He is not only a professional scuba diving instructor, but he also carries out beach and water cleaning activities in Ishinomaki(also speaks very good English).  Through events with children who were victims of the tsunami, he is trying to convey sea’s beauty and help them trust sea again.

The diving experience was honestly extremelyyyy scary for me… the fear of breathing under water, dealing with the pressure in the ears, the difficulty of controlling your body movements were blood-curdling (anxiety which lasted even the next day… ) )

But in the same time, discovering a new world, the underwater world was just wonderful…Seeing fish in their natural environment, swimming along with them was really moving <3
