Hi, I’m Alexandra, 27 years old, from Romania, currently working for a Japanese company in the printing business and living in Yokohama.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve been here and I am amazed of how so many things changes. New roads, restaurants, attractions and especially extremely enthusiastic young people to make this town even better. The spirit of entrepreneurship is impressive.
I have arrived here yesterday by train and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the station names in the local train coming here were also written in English. I believe little by little Onagawa is preparing for foreigners’ visits!! That is great!
As a big sea food fan, I have started my gourmet experience here with 女川丼 (seafood rice bowl) at お魚いちばおかせい. All the suer fresh fish made it a scrumptious meal indeed. In this restaurant I could also experience the warmth of Onagawa people, as some of the customers saw I was a little lost while ordering and kindly tried to help me. Thank you!
With full tummy I started heading back and admired for a while the very stylish design of Onagawa Station, by the famous architect Shigeru Ban, who also who also contributed to the design of temporary housing structures in the town in the wake of the March 2011 tsunami. The night view of the station is beautiful indeed.
The Hot Spring inside the Station is also a must try! For those who have never tried a Japanese hot spring before, no worries, there is English explanation on the usage too. 🙂
This was pretty much the magic of Onagawa Station in my first half day… More to come in the next days.
