Day 2 in Onagawa (May 1st)

Day 2 in Onagawa (May 1st)

Morning jogging

I’m very happy that I could find many routes I can do jogging around Urashuku Station. Onagawa is full of beautiful places and I am looking forward to discover them in the next mornings. I plan to run 5 km every morning.

Food – 釜飯 Kamameshi Lunch

Today I tried for the first time 海鮮浜めし(釜飯) – rice and seafood served in a hot pot. It had scallops too, which is my favorite sea food! Very delicious and a must try from the restaurant district Seapal-pier Onagawa at マルキチ女川浜めし屋 (Marukichi Onagawa HamameshiYa)DSCF6235

We also visited the small fish market and observed some “weird sea creatures” :  ホヤ- Hoya(sea squirt or sea pineapple),  なまこ Namako (sea cucumber)、しゅうり貝 Shuuri (a kind of Mussels), うに Uni (sea urchin),

Meeting locals in ガル屋(Garuya Beer Onagawa) – the best part

In the evening me and my roommate decided to enter a bar in the same district, Seapal-pier Onagawa, hopeful to meet locals, so we tried Garuya Beer Onagawa. This is where many craft beer lovers gather (locals and not only). They have many nice selections for craft beers, a few simple snacks (loved the cheese one) and on top of that, a very friendly atmosphere. We tried Onagawa Hop pale craft beer (女川ホップペール)draft beer, which is similar to an IPA but felt easier to drink it.

Beside the great drinks and snacks, we got to make new friends too. A few of the locals started having a conversation with us, very openly and asked what do we think about Onagawa so far and if we have anything we think it should be better.

We were also invited to have a tour the next day around the city. Onagawa people are very warm indeed, full of omotenashi spirit. We are going to have a drive to an Onsen/Hot Spring and a few other places tomorrow.
